Prince Harry and Meghan open their montecito mansion to LA wildfire victims

Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, have opened their $29 million Montecito mansion to friends and loved ones displaced by the devastating wildfires sweeping through Los Angeles County. In a heartfelt statement, the couple urged those unaffected by the disaster to offer safe havens to evacuees and to donate essential supplies like clothing and children’s toys.

Their home, located 90 miles north of Los Angeles in the Santa Barbara enclave, remains safe but may face power outages as fires continue to spread. The Sussexes have already contributed clothing, children’s items, and other necessities to aid affected families and are coordinating further efforts through their Archewell Foundation.

The couple has also partnered with chef José Andrés and his World Central Kitchen organization to provide meals for those in need. As the recovery effort begins, Archewell plans to support mental health initiatives and seek volunteer opportunities.

The wildfires have ravaged over 30,000 acres, destroying approximately 5,300 structures in areas like Pacific Palisades, Hidden Hills, and Malibu. Notable Hollywood stars, including Billy Crystal, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Jeff Bridges, have lost their homes, while others, such as Tom Hanks, narrowly escaped the flames.

Local authorities have reported ten deaths and multiple arrests for looting as 180,000 residents have been forced to evacuate. High winds continue to exacerbate the crisis, with gusts expected to reach up to 70 mph. The fires have also disrupted the film industry, delaying Oscar nominations and canceling premieres.

Despite the challenges, Prince Harry and Meghan remain committed to supporting their community and encouraging others to step forward during this crisis. Their actions highlight the importance of unity and compassion in the face of disaster.
