“Party founder Imran Khan has said to call off talks with the government due to a delay over the formation of judicial commissions”, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan said Thursday.
The government and the PTI had been negotiating to lower political tensions. Following two rounds of discussions, the PTI formally submitted its requests in writing during the third round, which took place seven days ago on January 16.
The creation of judicial commissions and the release of PTI detainees are two significant issues on which the dialogue process has barely advanced after weeks of negotiations.
After the PTI threatened to boycott the upcoming round of negotiations if judicial commissions were not established to look into the May 9 and November 26 incidents, the government promised the party a response to the opposition’s “charter of demands” by seven working days on Monday.
After meeting with Imran Khan, Barrister Gohar told reporters outside Adiala Jail today that the government had pledged to constitute the needed judicial commissions within seven days, but that it had not done so.
“The PTI founder (has) said to call the talks off over the government’s failure to form the judicial commissions,” he said.
He added, “Negotiations cannot move forward if the commission is not announced today”.
