On Friday, the former Real Madrid star, Cristiano Ronaldo, questioned the decision to hand the men’s Ballon d’Or award to Rodri instead of Vinicius. He openly stated that Vinicius equally deserved to win the award.
The top FIFA-ranked countries’ panel of journalist decides deserving for Ballon d’Or award on the basis of votes. This time Manchester City’s Rodri won the award. Vinicius scored 24 goals in all the competitions. However, Rodri beat the Vinicius’ club after the midfielder led City to a fourth straight Premier League title.
Vinicius was getting the single of being favourite to win the 2024 Ballon d’Or throughout the month of October. Vinicius finished second in voting behind Spain and Manchester City midfielder Rodri. A month later, Vinicius won the Best FIFA Men’s Player of the Year. Ronaldo was also awarded the ‘Best Middle East Player’ award at the ceremony. He lambasted ‘unfair’ Ballon d’Or.
The Vinicius’ club Real did not attend the award ceremony to boycott it for not winning the mean’s award. At the Globe Soccer Awards, five-time Ballon d’Or award winner said, “I really love the way they do their career, (Jude) Bellingham, Lamine (Yamal) now, this young generation, Vinicius, they do a fantastic job.”
Ronaldo added, “he (Vinicius) deserved to win the golden ball. It was unfair, I say it here in front of everybody.” “They gave it to Rodri, he deserved it too, but I think they should have given it to Vinicius because he won a Champions League.”
Vinicius missed out the prestigious award. Ronald voiced out that the club deserved this year Ballon d’Or and said that’s the reason he chooses the ‘honest’ Global Soccer award.
