Former US president Jimmy Carter passes away at 100

Jimmy Carter, the 39th U.S. President, has passed away at 100. He served as president from 1977 to 1981, achieving historic milestones like the Camp David Accords, which fostered peace between Israel and Egypt. This landmark agreement remains one of his greatest legacies.

Despite his diplomatic success, Carter faced significant challenges during his term. The Iran hostage crisis, lasting 444 days, overshadowed his presidency and contributed to his defeat in the 1980 election by Ronald Reagan. Economic struggles, including high inflation and unemployment, further complicated his leadership.

After leaving office, Carter dedicated his life to humanitarian causes. Through the Carter Center, he worked on global health initiatives, disease eradication, and conflict resolution. His efforts earned him the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for promoting peace, democracy, and human rights.

Carter battled health issues in his later years, including melanoma that spread to his liver and brain. In 2023, he chose hospice care, marking the end of his public engagements. His wife, Rosalynn Carter, passed away in November 2023 at the age of 96, leaving behind a legacy of shared advocacy.

Carter’s post-presidency work highlighted his commitment to humanity. His initiatives in global health and peace-building set new standards for former world leaders. His compassion and dedication serve as an enduring inspiration for generations to come.
