Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif led a critical meeting of the Apex Committee of the National Action Plan (NAP) on January 3, 2025, bringing together federal, provincial, and military leaders to tackle the nation’s security challenges. The committee evaluated the implementation of the 2021 NAP and set clear goals to enhance national security and law enforcement measures in the coming year.
Federal ministers, chief ministers of all provinces, the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan participated in the session. Additionally, military leaders, including Army Chief General Asim Munir and intelligence agency heads, contributed to the discussions.
During the meeting, participants agreed to reactivate “Operation Azm-e-Istehkam,” which focuses on eradicating extremism and terrorism. This strategy includes improving coordination among law enforcement agencies, introducing socio-economic programs to address extremism’s root causes, and closing legal gaps that hinder the prosecution of terrorism-related cases. By prioritizing these measures, the government aims to create a secure and stable environment.
The forum also prioritized the safety of foreign nationals in Pakistan, especially Chinese citizens, by approving new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to improve their security framework. This decision reflects the government’s commitment to safeguarding international cooperation and ensuring a safe environment for foreign workers.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the importance of collective efforts in maintaining national peace and stability. He reiterated the government’s determination to counter threats to state authority, foster unity among stakeholders, and protect citizens from harm.
With this renewed focus on implementation and collaboration, the National Action Plan remains a vital framework for combating terrorism and extremism across the country.
