Shalimar express train derails near Shadra

Three coaches of the Shalimar Express fell from a bridge near Shadra, causing the up-and-down track to be closed, which caused delays for trains from Lahore to Faisalabad.

However, railway officials confirmed that a relief crane has been sent to Shahdara station and assured that no casualties occurred.

Pakistan Railways operates the Shalimar Express, a daily passenger train that travels 1,286 kilometers between Karachi and Lahore in about 18 hours and 40 minutes.

Lahore is home to the headquarters of Pakistan Railways, the state-owned company that was first founded as the North Western State Railway in 1861.

It covers 482 stations and runs 7,789 kilometers (4,840 miles) of track from Peshawar to Karachi, including both freight and passenger services.
