Afghanistan’s Ministry of Propagation of virtue and Prevention of vice prevented 300 cases of women being sold.

In a recent press conference, the Afghanistan Ministry of Propagation of virtue presented its annual report, showcasing significant strides in various areas, including the protection of women’s rights and the crackdown on immoral activities. Among the key achievements, officials emphasized securing women’s access to inheritance, preventing violence against women, and halting the sale of women. Notably, the Ministry also reported the destruction of over 21,000 musical instruments and the arrest of nearly 1,000 amulet-makers and sorcerers, who have been handed over to judicial authorities.

Mohibullah Mukhles, the Director of Planning and Legislation, shared that out of the 9,808 complaints received by the Ministry, 5,486 have been successfully resolved. He further elaborated that 13,391 individuals were involved in immoral activities, with 7,204 of them detained for 24 hours and another 4,737 held for 72 hours as a form of disciplinary punishment.

The Ministry has also played a crucial role in preventing forced marriages, successfully intervening in over 300 cases. Furthermore, nearly 300 cases of women being sold were halted, and more than 1,000 longstanding enmities were transformed into friendships through mediation. In another significant achievement, over 700 women who were previously denied their inheritance rights have now received their rightful share.

During the conference, Mohammad Faqir Mohammadi, the Deputy Minister for Policy and Technical Affairs, reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to upholding women’s Islamic rights. He stated, “We have made efforts in the past, are making efforts now, and will continue to strive in the future to ensure that women’s Islamic rights are upheld with the cooperation of the people.”

The Ministry’s efforts have also extended to the media sector, with officials reporting that nearly 300 underage individuals have been removed from the ranks of the Islamic Emirate. Moreover, 90% of visual, auditory, and print media broadcasts have been reformed to align with Islamic values.
