Trump suspends military aid to Ukraine after clash with Zelensky

U.S. President Donald Trump has suspended all military aid to Ukraine. This decision escalates pressure on Kyiv to negotiate peace with Russia. The move comes after a tense exchange between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House.

The suspension affects a significant portion of Ukraine’s military support. It includes over 200 howitzers, HIMARS rocket launchers, and Patriot missile batteries. These weapons have been crucial in Ukraine’s defense against Russian attacks. Without them, Kyiv may struggle to hold its ground, especially as Russian forces continue advancing.

Meanwhile, Vice President JD Vance has criticized Zelensky for his reluctance to engage in peace talks. He argued that Ukraine cannot sustain the war indefinitely without U.S. military support. However, he suggested that Zelensky may eventually agree to negotiations, given the changing political landscape.

In response to the U.S. decision, European leaders are exploring alternative strategies to assist Ukraine. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron have proposed a “coalition of the willing” to continue providing military aid. Additionally, Germany and Spain are considering increasing their defense budgets to compensate for the loss of American support.

Trump’s decision marks a turning point in the ongoing conflict. With U.S. aid halted, Ukraine faces an uncertain future, dependent on European support and shifting diplomatic efforts.
